Erectile Dysfunction and Sexual Dysfunction
ED is not normal, even for aging men, but it is common. At Florida Men’s Health, we work with men of all ages and from all walks of life. Estimates show that approximately one in every 10 men will suffer from ED at some point in his lifetime. Occasional issues, less than 20 percent of the time, are usually not cause for concern. But with ED, a man is unable to achieve an erection at least 50 percent of the time and it is a sign of an underlying issue...
What are the Causes of ED and Sexual Dysfunction?
Understanding the causes of ED and other sexual dysfunctions and knowing that both are usually symptoms of other underlying issues can make it easier to treat and/or manage the problem. In many cases, ED is linked to other sexual dysfunctions, including problems with orgasm, ejaculations, and lack of sexual desire.
There is a wide variety of issues that can trigger erectile and other sexual dysfunctions, including:
- Vascular disease
- Neurological disorders
- Psychological states
- Chronic illnesses and certain diseases
- Certain medications
It is common for men to experience ED as a common side effect of certain prescription drugs because of how their hormones are affected. Prescription medications can also affect the nervous system and blood circulation, both of which play a role in the development of an erection.
If you believe a prescription drug you are taking as affected your ability to get an erection or has caused any other type of sexual dysfunction, you should not stop taking the medication. Instead, speak to your doctor or contact our clinic for an evaluation.
Treatment for Erectile Dysfunction and Other Sexual Dysfunctions
ED can be treated in many ways, including:
- Hormone therapy
- Oral medications
- Penile injections
- Vacuum devices
- Intra-urethral medication
- Surgery and implants
Each therapy option has its own pros and cons and every patient is different. At Florida Men’s Health, we assess your overall health and specific circumstances to determine the underlying cause of your ED. Then we design a customized treatment program that is right for you.
What Should You Do If You are Experiencing Erectile Dysfunction or Other Sexual Dysfunction?
